Sober raves come to Brighton for Dry January
Neil Hudson Basing (at House of Happiness Sober Party - London)Two sisters are launching alcohol-free dance events - offering an alternative experience to conventional clubbing.
Promising DJs with "big beats and dirty bass" and "a mighty sound system", Sober Rave: UK Bass club night will take place at the Brighthelm Centre in Brighton on 18 January.
The Dry January Special is the brainchild of Monica and Christina Zammit of Third Space Events, and aims to provide a "proper rave", but with "safe spaces" and accessibility.
Monica Zammit said: "Our mission is simple: to create events that are fun and welcoming for individuals who may not always feel safe or included in usual club settings".
Gili Dailes - https://www.gilitography.com/There will be booze-free braille bar menus and strip lighting for vision impaired ravers, along with wheelchair access, chill out areas, safe space policy and designated welfare volunteers.
"Whether you're a woman, part of the queer community, living with a disability or embracing sobriety, these nights are for you," said Monica, who moved to Brighton from Gibraltar in 2003.
"We wanted to create the feeling of being at a proper rave, but with safe spaces and accessibility, always in mind.
"I wanted to go out and dance... but not stay up all night."
InnerFace AudioThe first club night will feature a mix of dancehall, bassline, jungle, garage and drum and bass music, with Milli Cooper from Innerface Records headlining alongside DJs including Amyfist from the Brighton-based BBG Collective.
