Two cats have died in a fire at a block of flats in west London, London Fire Brigade (LFB) has said.

Eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters were sent to Amber Way in Hammersmith at about 17:50 GMT on Sunday.

Part of a three-roomed flat on the fifth floor of the seven-storey block of flats was destroyed.

LFB said no further injuries were reported. It was believed the blaze was caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials and was being treated as accidental, the brigade added.

"If you smoke it is vitally important you stub it right out, preferably in an ashtray," LFB said.

Crews from Acton, Chiswick, Kensington and North Kensington were sent.

The fire was brought under control within an hour.
