Hull City Council said its plans would be delivered between April and March 2026

Hull City Council has approved £7.6m of government funding to improve its bus services.

The authority said the Department for Transport (DfT) cash would be spent on new services, increasing frequency on all key routes, installing up to 30 new bus shelters and improving accessibility as part of its Bus Service Improvement Plan, which would be delivered between April and March 2026.

Kerry Ryan, head of transport and traffic management at the council, said the aim was to "provide even more transport options and enable people to make more sustainable travel choices".

The DfT money is part of a wider initiative to ensure better bus services across England.

Under the council's plan, there will be a new service to the North Yorkshire Moors, a link to Clough Road and a loop of Kingswood.

Key routes including those along Anlaby Road, Holderness Road, Beverley Road and Spring Bank West will see a bus service every 10 minutes throughout the day, according to the authority.

The council also said there would be "better bus stop information" including new seating, signs, and improvements to bus time displays.

Ben Gilligan, managing director of East Yorkshire Buses, said: "We have been pleased with the progress in the last 12 months as we have worked to increase frequencies across the city."

He said customers had been given "more options to make a sustainable transport choice and access the city and surrounding areas".

Matt Cranwell, managing director of Stagecoach East Midlands, added: "The funding has been, and will continue to be, crucial to the continuing development of transport options for the people of Hull."
