A live advent calendar where locals will be able to see a new Christmas performance behind the door of a different home for 24 days is set to launch.

Storytellers, dancers and drummers will create a range of performances throughout December at 24 different addresses in Leek, Staffordshire.

Each day from Sunday, the secret address will be revealed in the morning, allowing people from the town and wider afield to find the location, organisers said.

Visitors will have to knock on the door between 16:00-18:30 GMT each day to enjoy the festive moments.

More than 40 community groups, schools, artists, and businesses are involved in the live advent calendar, which has been co-created by community arts programme OUTSIDE.

Creative director Sarah Bird said the event would show off the creativity of people in the community "allowing people of all ages to connect with each other and with their town in the most festive way".

"This year’s calendar features a brilliant range of surprises, with something special each day to fill December with joy and wonder,” she added.

The event, called 24 Doors, will end on 24 December with a community carol singalong at Leek Town Football Club.
