Residents were evacuated from Overtoun Court in Clydebank after the discovery

A second man has been charged after a tower block in Clydebank was evacuated following the discovery of a “suspect item”.

Residents of Overtoun Court were ordered to leave the building on 28 October after police made the find during their investigation into the death of a 58-year-old man.

Specialist bomb squad officers later detonated the item in a controlled explosion and a 26-year-old man appeared in court in connection with a firearms offence.

A 41-year-old man has also been charged with a firearms offence over the incident and is due to appear in court on Monday.

Some neighbours were forced to stay in a nearby community centre overnight, while others spent the night in local hotels.

The incident saw nearby Dalmuir train station closed, causing cancellations to trains running through the station.

Police Scotland said there "was nothing to suggest" the suspect item was linked to the death they were investigating in the area, which happened on 17 October.
