Five people were airlifted to safety after they were stranded by the incoming tide on a Cornish beach.

Coastguards and the RNLI from St Agnes, Portreath and St Ives were called to nearby Wheal Charlotte at 15:54 GMT on Saturday.

A coastguard helicopter plucked the stricken people from the beach to the top of the cliff from where they were taken to their vehicle at Chapel Porth.

"A big thank you to all attending agencies, excellent teamwork all round," said the St Agnes Coastguard team.
