A man has been charged with attempted murder after two people were stabbed inside a house in Staffordshire.

Anthony Lovatt, 68, of Cheadle, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of possessing a knife in a public place, police said.

Officers were called just after midnight on Friday to an address near Leek Road, following a report that a man and a woman had been attacked.

A man in his 60s was stabbed in his stomach and chest, and a woman in her 40s was stabbed in her chest, according to Staffordshire Police.

The force added that officers carried out emergency first aid before they were taken to hospital by paramedics.

The woman has since been discharged from hospital, while the man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police said officers searched a separate address in the area and recovered two knives nearby.

Mr Lovatt has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 6 December.
