Club to boost girls' confidence up for award

A club founded by two mums to help boost young girls' confidence has been nominated for an award.
The Fearless Girls Club was set up by Kate Cooper and Elle Wilks in July 2023, and has outlets in Chobham, Surrey and Sunninghill, Berkshire.
They have been nominated in the community business category in the Surrey Business Awards.
The clubs are targeted at girls aged between eight and 11 and meet once a week for an hour and a half.
Speaking to BBC Radio Surrey, the pair said they set up the club to help girls like their daughters through friendship issues and moving to secondary school.
The club helps girls to use understand social media and use it responsibly.
"It's this perfect storm that comes for our girls at this age that's biological and psychological and social," Ms Wilks said.
"That's what the club is in existence for, to really understand yourself."
Ms Cooper said the aim was to expand, with new clubs across Surrey and beyond.
She said: "We already take older volunteers, secondary school girls come and volunteer at the club. Longer term, watch this space.
"We knew girls needed something just for them, somewhere to grow into their power. That's what we've built and we've been blown away by the response."
The finals of the Surrey Business Awards take place in Guildford in November.
