A tip-off led to police discovering a cannabis farm inside a house on a suburban street.

West Yorkshire Police said a "third party" reported suspicious activity at the Victorian terraced property near Bradford city centre on Wednesday.

Officers raided the four-storey house on Ashgrove, off Great Horton Road, and found hundreds of plants being cultivated inside.

Nobody was inside at the time but an investigation has begun.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Officers discovered around 300 to 400 cannabis plants being grown over four floors in numerous rooms.

"No arrests were made but we have recorded a crime of producing a controlled Class B drug.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to any witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious at the location to get in touch.

"If they do they should quote the incident's crime number which is 13240633185."

Uniformed officers remained at the scene on Thursday to remove the plants.

Ashgrove contains a number of Grade II-listed buildings and in the 19th Century the street was home to German merchant families who had moved to Bradford to work in the textile industry.
