WW2 vehicles from UK join more D-Day parades

World War Two military vehicles are parading through France this weekend as part of commemorations for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The Military Vehicle Trust (MVT) has had more than 350 vehicles and about 1,500 people taking part in events over the past week, with the tour "planned for well over 18 months".

Peter Hamblin, from Martock, Somerset, is the vice chair of the trust and called it a "pilgrimage for anyone who has a World War Two vehicle".

On 9 June, they will be going through Bayeaux, one of the first places to be liberated after the Normandy landings.

Mr Hamblin said the MVT has thousands of members and other groups from countries like Belgium, France and Italy have been at D-Day events this week as well.

People from the US have even shipped vehicles over.

For their group, people travelled from all over the UK.

"There's been one or two breakdowns on the way, but that's life and dealing with 80-year-old vehicles," explained Mr Hamblin.

He said it had "been quite an undertaking" but "well worth it".

Whenever the trust is in France, he said they were "welcomed whereever we go" and there was a "tremendous reception".
