A "violent thug" who attacked a two-year-old boy and left them with a fractured skull has been jailed.

Grant Eddleston, 35, denied assaulting the boy in 2019 in Burnley but was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and child cruelty after a trial.

Lancashire Police said the victim, who cannot be identified, had since made a full recovery.

Eddleston was jailed for 10 years, with an additional three year licence period, at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday.

The force said Eddleston, of Burnley Road, Burnley, was described as a "high risk to young children" in a pre-sentence report compiled by the Probation Service.

Det Sgt Julia Graham of Lancashire Police said: "Grant Eddleston carried out a violent assault on a young boy causing him a serious, life-threatening head injury and then compounded his actions by trying to cover up what he had done.

"He has never accepted responsibility for his actions and has continually lied in a bid to protect himself."
