A former rugby league player has finished the penultimate leg of his charity challenge to raise funds for six Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities.

Kevin Sinfield set off from the MND Association headquarters in Moulton Park in Northampton, on a 50km (31-mile) run to the Mattioli Woods Welford Road in Leicester, where he played during his rugby career.

The ex-England international is running 50km a day for seven consecutive days in memory of friend and team-mate Rob Burrow, who died of MND in June.

Just before setting off, Sinfield said: "Day six is always the most difficult, but we'll keep on at it. It will be nice to go back to Welford Road as I've still got some good friends there."

Sinfield ran half of the route in the black, green and gold of English champions, before switching to the green, red and white of Leicester Tigers, paying tribute to both East Midlands rugby clubs.

The Northamptonshire leg of his route took him through Brixworth, Naseby, and Sibbertoft.

He then crossed into Leicestershire, passing Fleckney and Wigston, and finishing at Leicester Tigers' Stadium.

Fans in Brixworth lined the streets to cheer Sinfield on, including Louis and Steve, who waited "half an hour early to get a prime position".

"We're proud of what he's doing for MND and his association with Leicester Tigers," said Steve, a Tigers fan.

Louis added: "I have so much admiration for what he's doing and what he's going through".
