Man dies after car crashes off road

A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed near Barnsley.

Officers were called to Rotherham Road, in Monk Bretton, at 19:20 BST on Sunday, following reports a blue Audio RS5 had come off the road near to the junction with Long Causeway.

South Yorkshire Police said a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

The force said an investigation into the circumstances was under way and has appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any relevant footage to come forward.
