A driver who crashed a Ferrari into a tree suffered "severe traumatic injuries", an inquest was told.
The sports car - driven by 31-year-old Benjamin Gladman - left the road in Bow Hill, near Marlingford, Norfolk, at 14:55 GMT on 25 January.
Former Prime Minister Lord David Cameron was among the first on the scene.
The opening of the inquest into the death of Mr Gladman, who was from Brentwood, in Essex, took place on Friday at a coroner's court in Norwich.

Norfolk area coroner Samantha Goward told the hearing the cause of Mr Gladman's death was "multiple severe traumatic injuries".
She adjourned the inquest until 30 October.
A woman in her 30s who was a passenger in the Ferrari was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, Norfolk Police said.
The force confirmed Lord Cameron's close protection officers had provided first aid at the scene "immediately".
