The single-vehicle collision happened at about 11:25 BST on Tuesday

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision on a motorway, a police force said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on the M1 northbound between junction 16 and 17, close to Watford Gap Services, at about 11:25 BST on Tuesday, Northamptonshire Police said.

The rider of a blue Yamaha XJ900, a man aged in his 70s, and his passenger, a woman in her 50s who was travelling in the sidecar, were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment.

Anyone with information about the collision has been asked to call 101, the force added.
