Some traders are breaching city council rules over where they can sell ice cream

Rules for ice cream vans around Liverpool's two Premier League grounds are to be tightened after some traders breached regulations.

Some vendors trading near Goodison Park and Anfield have been parked in one place on match days without correct permission, the city council said.

Documents released by Liverpool Council said infringements were causing issues between sellers who had paid for a static consent and those who had only paid for short-term day consents.

Mobile traders will require additional permission from the council if they wish to trade on a stationary basis during concerts, Everton or Liverpool match days, or during any other similar outdoor events held within the city.

The local authority said some traders had been getting around the rules by parking and remaining static in one location for many hours to sell their product.

Ice cream van drivers will now be expected to move on from a location after 20 minutes if they do not have permission to stay there, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reports.

Under the new rules, the ice cream sellers must clearly identify the times and dates they wish to trade, and in which locations.

"Mobile ice cream van traders are expected to keep on the move only stopping to make sales to customers on streets within their consented list of streets," the report said.

"They are not to expected to remain in any one location for longer than 20 minutes and must move on at least 200 metres before resuming trading.

"Traders must not return to any location they have previously traded at that same day, or within 200 metres of it, until at least two hours have elapsed since their last sale at any such location."
