Fire hits car firm known for dinosaur on forecourt

A large fire has destroyed or damaged more than 20 vehicles at a Swansea car dealership.

Pictures showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky above a giant dinosaur model on the forecourt of Day's Motorpark in Gorseinon.

Emergency services went to the scene on Thursday afternoon on Swansea Road, where campervans and other vehicles were damaged and destroyed.

A 25-year-old man was tended to by paramedics but was not seriously injured.

Firefighters said seven motorhomes were destroyed by flames while six were damaged.

A further four private vehicles, eight vans and a minibus were also damaged.

An eight by four metre outbuilding and a shipping container were left in need of repair after the blaze.

The fire is believed to have been caused accidentally.

Police said they helped firefighters manage traffic and that part of Swansea Road was closed.

Residents were advised to stay inside and keep windows and doors closed and people were advised to avoid the area.

Nearby buildings were evacuated.

Fire crews left the scene at 16:50.
