A free music festival will take place as part of celebrations to mark a city's 100th anniversary.

The event, in Hanley Park, Stoke-on-Trent, will take place on 7 June to run alongside the People's Parade.

Party in the Park will feature street food stalls and music acts on a big stage alongside other activities throughout the afternoon, Stoke-on-Trent City Council said.

Lyn Sharpe, centenary champion at the authority, said she was "so proud" of the city and the day was shaping up to be a "truly amazing celebration".

The parade through Hanley is set to include 100 dancing cupcakes, a towering Spirit of Stoke puppet, children in yellow duck hats, dancers, musicians and people wearing an array of costumes reflecting the city's heritage.

The music festival will include artists Levi Knapper, Dala Jade and Taylor Swift tribute act Bejeweled among others.

Party-goers could bring picnics, chairs and blankets to "add to the festival atmosphere" and there will be a licensed bar.

The parade and party will be held shortly after the very first Stoke-on-Trent Day, which will be on 5 June.

Stoke-on-Trent obtained city status from His Majesty King George V in 1925, as the monarch recognised the area's considerable contribution to the pottery industry.

"Our streets will come alive with pride, and Hanley Park will welcome the crowds with hours of free music and entertainment to keep the celebrations going," Sharpe said.
