Firefighters are raising money for a mother who was left needing long-term medical care after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Dale Clark hit Rebecca Sharp with his Toyota Rav4 in Bournemouth in April last year.

She was able to push her baby to safety but suffered a near-fatal head injury, a broken leg, pelvis, ribs and a fractured skull.

Redhill Park fire station in Bournemouth is holding a car wash, coffee morning and bake sale to raise funds for Brain Research UK to support Mrs Sharp, as well as two other charities.

Money raised from the events at the station on 13 April will also go to Alfie’s Wish Charity and the Fire Fighters Charity.

Mrs Sharp spent eight weeks in a coma after the crash and has had to learn to walk again.

Clark was over the drink-drive limit and fled the scene, leaving the mum lying unconscious in the middle of the road.

He was jailed for three years and eight months in October after previously pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Redhill Park firefighter Janine McCumiskey said: “Some of our firefighters helped to care for Becky when the crash happened, so we’re delighted that she and her family are hoping to join us on the day.”
