Family tribute to 'gentle giant' killed in crash
A man killed in a crash has been described as a "gentle giant".
Paul Charlton, 62, died at the scene when his Peugeot 407 and a Honda Civic collided in North Shields on 11 January.
The family of Mr Charlton, who was from Battle Hill, North Tyneside, said he "brought so much love and laughter".
Northumbria Police's investigation into the crash, at Norham Road North, near the junction with Middle Engine Lane, continues.
'Forever in our hearts'
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries.
Mr Charlton's family, including his wife Mandy, issued a tribute saying: "Paul was a gentle giant who brought so much love and laughter to us all.
"He will be missed more than words could ever describe, remaining forever in our hearts.
"We are eternally grateful to the people who were there with him, until the end."
The family also thanked well-wishers, describing their support as "a real source of comfort".
Sgt Alex Partington said Northumbria Police's "deepest sympathies remain with Paul's loved ones at this devastating time".
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact the force.
