Soapbox race to return after 'special' first event

A charity soapbox race will return to Crewe next year after thousands attended the inaugural event.

The team behind Krazy Races, which is held at various locations across the UK, said the race would take place in the Cheshire town on 25 May.

The announcement came after 15,000 people turned out to watch 30 teams of wacky racers speed along Ford Lane, Broad Street and Badger Avenue at the first event held on 14 July.

More than £10,000 was also raised for various local charities, organisers confirmed.

Danny Scoffin from Krazy Races said the team had been “inundated” with messages from people asking for the race to return next year.

Speaking of this year’s event, he said: “Living in Crewe myself, it was such a special day seeing so many people enjoying our event.

“We had fantastic teams representing some of Crewe’s most iconic businesses and charities.”
