Residents have been evacuated from their homes during a security alert in south Belfast.

A man in his 50s has been arrested as part of the investigation and remains in police custody at this time.

Police and Army members are at the scene.

Empire Street has been cordoned off at the junction with Lamberg Street, beside Laganside Auctions in the village area.

Police say displaced residents have been advised they can go to the Olympia Leisure Centre while the alert is ongoing.
