Sports project for disabled launched by charity
A football charity has launched a new project to encourage young people with disabilities to become involved in sports.
The Wolves Foundation's Sporting Chances scheme will see sport activities delivered in schools during extracurricular clubs, evenings and weekends.
Those aged 11 to 25, who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), will see a variety of activities on offer across Wolverhampton and the Black Country.
A spokesperson from the charity said: "This project is a great opportunity for us to remove barriers to attendance for SEND individuals."
A consultation process carried out by the foundation showed children and young people with disabilities often faced further obstacles when it came to accessing sport and physical activities.
"We all know the huge benefits that sport and physical activity can bring to people of all ages," the charity said.
The foundation has credited a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund for allowing it to "expand our offer to incorporate multi-sport delivery.
"It's a really exciting project which we are thrilled to be delivering as we head into 2025," it added.
Sessions of the new initiative will start from 6 January.
