Man suffers slash wounds in street fight

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering "very nasty injuries" in a street fight in Nottingham.

Police said they were called to St Ann's Way in St Ann's at about 23:00 GMT on Sunday following reports of a fight between two men.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with "slash wounds" that officers said were not believed to be life-threatening.

The man had arrived injured at Mechanics House, a nearby homeless centre run by Framework Housing Assocation, which said it was helping police with their inquiries "as much as it can".

None of the residents of the Mechanics House were involved in the attack and the injured man was "not known to staff", the charity said.

Claire McGonigle, Framework's deputy chief executive, said: "Staff acted quickly and professionally to get the victim medical support as soon as he appeared in reception.

"As this is an active police investigation we will let the police release any relevant details and we are helping them with their enquiries as much as we can."

Det Insp Lisa Jones, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The victim has been left with some very nasty injuries and officers are working hard on the investigation."
