A TV and radio presenter has announced her cancer has returned after previously receiving clear scans.

In April 2023, Mari Grug, a regular on Welsh-language TV channel S4C, was diagnosed with breast cancer, which spread to her lymph nodes and liver.

One year later, the 40-year-old revealed she had received the "best news possible" with scans showing her liver was clear of cancer.

"Unfortunately the cancer has returned and I am about to start a period of chemotherapy," she said in a social media post on Tuesday.

The Prynhawn Da and Heno presenter, from Pembrokeshire, previously said she felt lucky to be alive after her breast cancer spread to her lymph nodes and liver.

She said doctors initially told her to only expect palliative care.

However, following a year of chemotherapy, breast removal surgery and radiotherapy, two consecutive scans showed her liver was clear of cancer.

"It's great and positive and a step in the right direction - but you never know with cancer," she said in May, following the clear scans.

"For anyone who knows and understands cancer, there is bound to be a micro disease somewhere or some cells that haven't shown themselves."

Since starting treatment, Mari has started a Welsh-language podcast discussing her experience and encouraging others to share their experiences and to "not be afraid" of cancer.
