Community shed seeks new home as group grows

A community shed in Somerset is searching for a new premises as it is outgrowing its current home.
The Somerset Levels and Moors Shed (SLaMS) has been based by the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal in Bridgwater since 2017.
However, chairman Colin Gorton says its rising membership means they need a bigger space.
"This space has been ideal, and the landlord has been very supportive, but we're simply running out of room," Mr Gorton said.

"There are more and more guys coming along to the shed."
The shed, which first opened in 2015, provides a welcoming environment for people to work on creative and practical projects, to combat social isolation.
However, as a small charity, it cannot afford high commercial rents, and it is appealing to potential landlords for help.

Gerald Swayne from the shed said "We are proud of what we have built here, but as our membership grows, we need a bigger space to keep providing opportunities for more people.
"We are looking for a larger premises at a peppercorn rent. If anyone can help, we'd love to hear from them."
Bridgwater MP Ashley Fox visited the shed to learn more about its impact and said it was "fantastic to see the sense of camaraderie and purpose" it provides to its members.
"This is a brilliant initiative that helps people develop skills while contributing to the community. I hope they can secure a larger premises to continue their important work," Mr Fox said.
While the shed primarily attracts men, it is open to all aged 18 and over, and has some female members.
"We welcome anyone regardless of skill level. It is a friendly, non-judgemental space," Mr Gorton said.
