Family tribute to man killed at railway station
An East Yorkshire man who was killed in an alleged assault at York railway station was "one in a million", his family has said.
James Hitchcock, 32, from Cottingham in East Yorkshire, died in hospital three days after the incident on 15 December.
A 22-year-old man, Mckenzie Dicicco, of Belgravia Gardens, Middlesbrough has appeared in court charged with his murder.
Paying tribute, Mr Hitchcock's family said: "Our hearts are broken."
They added: "We still cannot comprehend the events that have taken place.
"James was one in a million, the life and soul of the party and did not deserve to be taken from us so soon and under such cruel circumstances.
"His memory will live on in the life of his beautiful baby boy."
The married father-of-one, who played football for Barton Town FC, was on a night out in York when the alleged attack took place.
Det Ch Insp Sam Painter from British Transport Police said: "Our specialist officers are continuing to support James's family and friends following this tragic and horrific incident."
Mckenzie Dicicco, 22, of Belgravia Gardens, Middlesbrough appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Friday charged with murder and affray.
He was remanded in custody until his next hearing on 5 February.
