New temporary parking badge for reduced mobility

A temporary parking badge for people with restricted mobility is to be introduced in North Lincolnshire.

The Green Badge, similar to the Blue Badge but on a temporary basis, will allow people experiencing temporary illness or injury to park closer to places across the borough.

It will be valid for 10 weeks from the date it is issued and will need to be displayed when parking in a disabled bay.

Applications will require supporting evidence from GPs or healthcare professionals with the scheme launching in January.

Depending on circumstances, the green badge could be extended after the 10-week period.

Councillor Carl Sherwood, North Lincolnshire cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), said: "We are among the first in the country to develop a scheme like this to support people who are having temporary mobility issues whilst they recover from an illness or injury to access venues and services easily.

"The Green Badge scheme will make a real difference for people who are having difficulties getting out and about to help them stay independent, stay safe and well, living in their own home and community."

Councillor Elaine Marper, cabinet member for transforming the customer journey, said: "We often get people contacting us about Blue Badges because they are having mobility problems but don't fit the criteria for a Blue Badge.

"The Green Badge now bridges that gap."
