Replacement of 'decades old' gas pipes to close road
Part of a Nottinghamshire road is set to be closed for several weeks while gas works take place.
Cadent will be working on High Road, Chilwell, to install plastic pipes from Monday.
The road will be closed between the junctions with Cator Lane and Bridge Avenue until 6 September, Nottinghamshire County Council said.
The gas company said the existing pipes were "decades old" and needed replacing.
A diversion will send drivers along the A6006 Queens Road West while the works take place, according to the county council.
The location of the work will not affect NET Trams but bus firms have warned of disruption to some routes.
'Number one priority'
Both Nottingham City Transport’s Orange 36 route and Trentbarton’s Indigo service will be diverted.
Cadent said residents could see some disruption to their supplies during the project.
Richard Sansom, network director for Cadent in the East Midlands, said: "Keeping the people of Chilwell warm in their homes is our number one priority.
“We understand the frustrations that the road closure will cause to road users and residents and we apologise for this.
"Whilst diversions are in place, I’d urge everybody to allow a little bit more time for their journeys throughout the period of the works, and I’d like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding as our engineers complete these works safely and as swiftly as possible.”
