Karting circuit has plans for racing-themed hub

Buckmore Park, the karting circuit near Chatham, Kent, is applying for permission to build what it describes as a motorsport-themed centre.

Called The Paddock, it would include 18 racing simulators, a 120-seat restaurant and sports bar, a conference centre and a roof terrace overlooking the circuit.

Buckmore Park was owned by the late Formula 1 world champion John Surtees and was also where Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Lando Norris and Ollie Bearman began their racing careers.

The scheme, which the park says will create 30 new jobs, will be put to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council for planning permission.

The Paddock would include simulators, a restaurant and bar and a roof terrace.

Leonora Martell-Surtees, co-owner and daughter of John Surtees, said: “The Paddock, with its simulator room, viewing terrace, restaurant and bar, would add an exciting new dimension to what Buckmore offers.

"It will be the ideal place for visitors of all ages to watch Formula 1, World Endurance Championship, Formula E and F1 Academy as well as having the chance to get on track themselves.”

Richard Martell-Surtees, co-owner, added: “If approved we aim to be breaking ground on site in 2026 and open to our first visitors in 2027.”
