The toilets have won awards for the last nine years

A council has won its ninth successive award for running the best toilets in the country.

Chorley Council took the Loo Of The Year prize for the conveniences at Chorley Market for the ninth time in a row.

Chorley Council's Deputy Leader, Peter Wilson, said: "We are delighted, we have quality facilities - it's great to receive another award to show this is no flash in the pan."

The toilets were upgraded as part of a £600,000 refurbishment of the market three years ago.

The cubicles have eco-friendly LED lighting and special adaptations for people with disabilities and those with stomas.

Mr Wilson said it was "particularly rewarding" that the toilet staff have been recognised with a Washroom Technician of the year award.

In all the toilets received awards in four categories.

Chorley Markets' toilets came out on top after an unannounced visit by a Loo Of The Year Inspector, who rated its cleanliness, signage, fixtures and fittings provision, décor and maintenance.

Mr Wilson said the council was responding to public consultations about improving the market.
