People evacuated from homes following blaze
Residents living in a row of houses were asked to leave following a blaze.
Six fire engines were called to the "well developed" blaze at a house in Lincoln Street, Kingsthorpe, Northampton, at about 02:45 GMT.
Two neighbouring homes were affected by heat and water damage, while the power for up to 30 houses had to be switched off for a few hours and residents were asked to leave.
"The fire was largely contained, due to the hard work of our fire crews, to the property affected," said Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service group commander Dan Retter.
"Unfortunately, we did have to isolate power to this street... but only three affected properties [now] have power isolated."
Mr Retter said crews would remain on the scene to dampen down any hots spots in the property.
The road had been shut for a number of hours, but people could now access it at several points, he added.
The fire service and police officers were expected to stay at the scene for the rest of the day while they investigated the cause of the blaze.
Mr Retter said there was no evidence anyone was in the house at the time of the blaze, but inquiries were still being carried out.
A couple who live on the street told the BBC a police officer had knocked on their door in the morning and asked if they had heard anything at 03:00.
While they had slept through the fire, their neighbour opposite had been woken up.
"He saw a huge billow of smoke and the smell was terrible and he couldn't sleep," said the resident.
"I think we're still a bit worried about what is happening next," she added.
