A man has been arrested after a bicycle shop was targeted by thieves twice in the same night.

North Yorkshire Police said the first burglary at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub at Lealholm, near Whitby, took place at about 01:30 BST on Friday when four men smashed a side door to enter the shop and stole four bikes.

A second break-in at about 03:30 BST saw a further four bikes stolen by two men.

A man, in his 30s, had since been arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and he had been released on conditional bail, a police spokesperson said.

North Yorkshire Police appealed for anyone with information or CCTV footage to get in touch.

The police spokesperson said that officers wanted in particular to speak to anyone who saw a black car or a white Luton van "acting suspiciously" in the area on Friday.

According to officers, the suspects had their faces covered and were wearing gloves. One of them was also wearing Nike VaporMax Shockz trainers.
