Young people on Teesside have been given the chance to spend time by the sea thanks to a local charity.

Spreading the Happiness has been fundraising for food hampers to tackle holiday hunger for many years.

However, this year the charity added to the scheme by turning beach huts at Seaton Carew into a camp for youngsters.

As well as a host of outdoor activities, the children from low-income backgrounds have been offered three meals a day.

Shonette Bason, Spreading the Happiness founder, said: "The original thought was to use this as a beach nursery where the children have the beach huts as a base and the classroom as a beach.

"But then when we thought why don't we give children from out of town areas who are from low income families the experience of a day at the beach?

"And then wrapping up the holiday hunger into that, provide breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, and lots of snacks in between."
