Car park to be closed for foreseeable future
A town centre car park will be closed for the foreseeable future following a structural review, which found the need for significant repairs, a council has said.
Victoria Way car park in Woking, which has 932 spaces and is open 24 hours, will be closed from 14 February.
Woking Borough Council said while the structural condition of the car park did not pose a risk to public safety, the report recommended temporary closure until "substantial repairs" were undertaken.
Dale Roberts, the council's deputy leader, said: "We are committed to taking a pragmatic approach to the car park's future, considering the cost implications, future maintenance requirements and the evolving parking needs of the town."
The closure was not due to reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), the council said.
The car park will close to in-bound vehicles from 17:30 GMT on 14 February and drivers will have the weekend to remove their cars before a full closure on 17 February.
Roberts said the council was working closely with permit holders to provide alternative parking arrangements in its town centre car parks.
