Minute of silence to mark Covid day of reflection

People gathered in Dorset to mark five years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic on Sunday.

Dorset Council invited residents to meet at Memorial Corner, outside County Hall in Dorchester, for a minute of silence at 12:00 GMT as part of a national day of recollection.

Stella Jones, council chair, said it was a chance to "remember those that are no longer with us" and honour the efforts of key workers and volunteers during "unprecedented times".

Those attending the event were encouraged to lay flowers at Memorial Corner, which has been renovated to include new panels in memory of front-line workers who lost their lives during the pandemic.

Ms Jones said: "The day will mark five years since the start of the pandemic that affected us all deeply.

"The service will provide an opportunity to come together, remember those that are no longer with us, and to honour the hard work of key workers and those who volunteered their time and showed acts of kindness during unprecedented times."
