Police have closed their investigation into chanting at a Carlisle United match in January

Four people accused of tragedy chanting at a football match have been released without being charged.

The men and teenagers, aged between 17 and 20, were arrested over chants at Carlisle United's home game against Bradford City on 18 January.

Tragedy chanting is when fans make reference to tragic events involving opposing clubs or their fans.

Cumbria Police said the four had been due to answer their bail earlier this week but had now been released "with no further criminal action to be taken".

The chanting was reported to have been heard close to an area separating Carlisle and Bradford fans in Brunton Park's Andrew Jenkins Stand.

At the time, Cumbria Police launched a public appeal and asked witnesses to come forward.
