Man critical after being hit by unmarked police car
A pedestrian is in a critical condition after being hit by an unmarked police car.
Bedfordshire Police is investigating the crash, which happened shortly before 02:15 BST on a slip road onto the A421 near Kempston.
The pedestrian - a man in his 60s - was taken to hospital for treatment.
The force has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and said that at the time of the collision the unmarked car had not been responding to an incident.
The collision happened on the eastbound slip road out of the Marsh Leys roundabout in Kempston in the direction of the A6.
Officers shut off the carriageway and diverted traffic, before the road was reopened at about 11:00.
The pedestrian's next of kin have been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
The police force is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
