A teenage boy was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition after a crash involving a digger and a bus.

It happened between Wivenhoe and Alresford, near Colchester, at about 10:30 BST.

Police arrested a man in his 60s from Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He was later questioned in custody by officers, who appealed for witnesses to get in touch.

Wivenhoe Road was shut for most of the day so detectives could establish what happened.

"We would thank the public for their patience and help whilst emergency services dealt with this matter," a police spokesman said.
