Man arrested on suspicion of arson after flat fire

A man has been arrested after a house was allegedly set on fire in Scunthorpe.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze broke out at about 02:40 GMT in Ashby Road in the front bedroom of a flat.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which caused extensive damage to the bedroom and the roof of the property and also affected an adjoining building.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent, Humberside Police said.

The force has appealed for witnesses or people who saw "anybody acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the fire" to contact them.
