The Fourfields Community Primary School in Yaxley is reopening after flood damage caused it to shut

A primary school is reopening following a burst water main flooding incident.

Fourfields Community Primary School in Yaxley, Peterborough remained closed on Monday and Tuesday but will reopen on Wednesday.

The school described the carpets as "sodden" and said the floors were "badly affected by the flooding and very wet and therefore unsafe".

Headteacher Sue Blyth said the school children were provided with home learning materials while the building remained shut.

The primary school on Bentley Avenue said the clean-up activity was ongoing and thanked the community for its support.

The school was impacted last year after a similar incident which caused "nightmare" flooding and the closure of three primary schools in Yaxley.

Ms Blyth said: "The school has been closed for two days after a burst water pipe caused flooding at the weekend. During this time children have been provided with home learning materials.

"Repairs have been made, the school has dried out and I am pleased to confirm we will be open as normal on 3 December.

"I would like to thank our whole school community and the local authority for their support."
