Hundreds of 'unsafe' toys seized near event
More than 200 unsafe toys and novelty items have been seized from sellers who set up outside a famous illuminations event in Derbyshire.
Trading Standards officers from Derbyshire County Council found two unofficial mobile sellers were trying to sell to people heading to this year's Matlock Bath Illuminations.
They were found to be offering unsafe toys and novelty items with easily accessible button batteries and no CE/UKCA safety markings.
The authority has warned people to "use your judgement and be wary of what you are buying".
Derbyshire County Council added that the traders caught over the weekend were spoken to by their trading standards officers, which will be followed up by written warnings and further written advice.
This year's event is taking place on the River Derwent every Saturday and Sunday night from 7 September to 27 October.
