Dentists to offer 14,000 more urgent appointments

More than 14,000 additional dentist appointments have been created in a county.

They were opened up by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust for people who needed urgent care in the area's so-called dental deserts.

Treatment available included for excessive bleeding from gums, severe pain and loose crowns or bridges.

Kate Vaughton, from the trust, said access to dentistry was "one of the biggest issues" for residents.

Participating practices can be found in Cambridge, Peterborough, Huntingdon, Fenland and east Cambridgeshire.

People were advised to call 111 if they required an urgent appointment, so they could be triaged over the phone.

"We're pleased that we will now be able to deliver over 14,000 additional appointments to support access for patients who have an urgent dental care need," Ms Vaughton said.

"If you think you may have an urgent dental care need, please don't delay and seek help as soon as possible."

Treatment would cost £27.60 for the patient, unless they were eligible for free NHS care or help with the price.
