The Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey and a team of Government House volunteers have planted 100 trees on behalf of a local charity.

Lt Gen Richard Cripwell is a patron for Guernsey Trees for Life (GTFL), which plans to home 1,000 native plants across 10 sites in Guernsey.

He said it was important to protect the environment "for future generations" as well as current ones.

"It was very important to me, that we could play our part in adding to the environment," Lt Gen Cripwell added.

Andy McCutcheon, technical officer at Guernsey Trees for Life, said in Guernsey we need to be especially mindful of the environment.

"Islands by definition are very sensitive to changes in their environment... it is very important that we care for our natural environment and Guernsey is no exception to that," he added.
