Man jailed for attacking ex-partner with knife

A man who attacked his former partner with a kitchen knife after threatening to kill her has been jailed.

Richard Admans, 60, of Marsh Road, Spalding, admitted wounding with intent and making a threat to kill when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court in September.

On Monday, at the same court, he was sentenced to three years and ten months imprisonment.

Admans was also handed a restraining order preventing him from having any contact with the victim.

The court heard the woman suffered non life-threatening injuries to her abdomen during the attack, which took place in Little London, Spalding, on 19 March.

Noel Philo, prosecuting, said Admans had approached her as she got into a car and told her: "You need to come home, and come home now."

He had then said: "I'm going to kill you now – it will be quick because they [the knives] are nice and sharp."

In a victim impact statement, read to the court, the victim described how she still felt fear when she saw a car similar to her husband's.

"I live in fear of Richard, even though I know he is in prison," she said.

The court heard Admans had a previous conviction for holding a knife to the woman's throat in February 2014.

Passing sentence, Judge Simon Hirst told Admans the most serious of the offences was the threat to kill because of the visibility of the knife and his previous violence.

The victim had "feared for her life and believed you would carry out the threat", the judge added.

In mitigation, Jeremy Janes said Admans had little recollection of the incident but had admitted being responsible.

"The injury was not grave," Mr Janes said. "This was not a stabbing."

The court also heard that the relationship of 20 years had ended "relatively recently" and the attack was out of character for the defendant.
