A man suffered "potentially life changing" injuries after a plane crashed into a field.

Emergency services rushed to a field near Belhus Woods Country Park, in Aveley, at just after 13:00 BST on Saturday.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters found one person trapped inside a "small light plane" with fuel leaking out of it.

The Air Accidents Investigations Branch confirmed it was investigating the incident.

Specialist ambulance crews and an air ambulance attended the scene, the London Ambulance Service said.

The patient was taken to a major trauma centre by road, an ambulance service spokesman added.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed his condition was as "not life-threatening but potentially life changing".
