Crops destroyed as fire takes hold in field
A large field of crops has been destroyed in a fire.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said crews were called to the field at Hursley, near Winchester, Hampshire, shortly before 14:00 BST on Wednesday.
About six hectares (15 acres) of standing crops were involved in the blaze which was brought under control using beaters and multiple hose reel jets.
HIWFRS urged the public to stay vigilant for fires in the countryside following the hot, dry weather and not to light campfires, barbecues or discard cigarettes and other litter which could start fires.
