The road between Sark and Little Sark will be closed while engineers carry out investigation and repair work after a partial wall collapse, the island's police force has said.

La Coupée, a narrow strip of land connecting the peninsula with the main island, will be closed on Thursday while a geologist and two engineers conduct a drone inspection and design a fix.

Sark Police said the road would be closed to "all but the most essential vehicle traffic" with weights kept to "an absolute minimum".

Engineers and rope specialists would start repair work next week, police said.

Sark, the smallest of the main Channel Islands, has no paved roads or cars, but does allow some vehicles such as tractors on Mondays to Saturdays and bicycles.

Sark Police said it would provide an update once the engineering team had completed their initial inspection.
