A stretch of the A2 in Dover is closed after a multi-vehicle crash and oil spillage

A stretch of the A2 is closed in both directions after a five-vehicle crash and diesel spillage which requires the road to be resurfaced.

The road is shut between the A258 (Swingate) and A20 (Dover), near the Port of Dover, following the crash at about 20:15 GMT on Wednesday.

It is expected to be closed for some time following a "significant" oil spillage, Kent County Council said.

The clear up work has been completed but the road will require resurfacing, National Highways said.

"At present, there is currently no estimate for when reopening of the road can take place," a spokesman added.

Traffic is being diverted at the scene via local routes by the emergency services.

Kent Police said there were no serious injuries.
