A man who was suspected of having a firearm, forcing the closure of a road in East Sussex, has been taken to custody.

Sussex Police went to an address in Portland Road, Hove on Thursday at 14:25 GMT to serve an arrest warrant that had been issued by Exeter Crown Court.

The man had refused to come to the door, a police spokesperson said.

Following negotiations throughout the afternoon police were able to arrest him on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear.

The man was taken to hospital to be checked over before being taken into custody.

All roads have now reopened.
